Privacy policy
- BudgetKind works without an account. Your accounts, transactions, budgets, goals and rules are stored on your device.
- Statement files you import are read on your device and never uploaded.
- If you create an optional cloud account and link a bank, we store your email address and the bank data Plaid provides (accounts, balances, transactions) on our servers in the United States so it can sync to the app.
- No ads, no selling or renting of your information, and no analytics, advertising or crash-reporting SDKs in the app.
- You can delete your data on the device and your cloud account from inside the app, or ask us by email. See Delete your account.
1. Who we are
BudgetKind (the Android app, the web app and budgetkind.com) is made by FAMVII LLC, an Ohio limited liability company (“we”, “us”), 572 Big Stone Dr, Sunbury, OH 43074. VNCNT Labs is the name we publish our apps under. Contact: hello@vncntlabs.com.
2. Where BudgetKind is today
BudgetKind is in early testing. Bank linking currently connects only to Plaid’s test environment (“Sandbox”), which uses made-up test banks; you can’t link a real bank account yet. Subscriptions are not on sale. This policy describes how the app works now. We’ll update it before we turn on real bank connections or paid plans if anything below changes.
3. Information on your device
Accounts you add, transactions, categories, budgets, rules, splits, tags, notes, goals, challenges and settings are stored in a database on your device (in your browser’s storage if you use the web app). This includes the categories, notes and rules you apply to linked-bank transactions. We don’t receive this data. It stays until you delete it in the app, uninstall the app or clear the site’s data in your browser.
- Statement files. When you import a CSV, Excel, PDF, OFX/QFX or QIF file, the app reads it on your device. The file isn’t uploaded to us or anyone else. If a PDF needs a password, it’s used once to open the file and never stored.
- Demo mode uses built-in sample data in a separate database and never touches your own data.
- Alerts (bills due, low balance and similar) are created on your device and shown as local notifications if you allow them.
- App lock uses your device’s fingerprint, face or PIN check. We never receive biometric data.
4. Information we collect
We only receive information if you create a cloud account, link a bank or email us.
| What | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Email address and an account ID | You create a cloud account. Sign-in uses a 6-digit code sent to your email; there is no password. | To create and secure your account and send sign-in codes |
| Two-step verification setup, if you turn it on where offered | You enroll an authenticator app | To protect sensitive actions such as removing a bank or deleting your account |
| Bank data from Plaid: institution name; account names, types and last 4 digits; balances; transactions (date, amount, description, merchant name and logo, category suggested by Plaid, pending status) | You link a bank through Plaid | To show your accounts and transactions in the app and keep them up to date |
| Bank connection records: Plaid’s item and account identifiers, connection status, sync history and the notifications Plaid sends us about updates | While a bank is linked | To keep the connection working and fix problems |
| Emails you send us | You write to us, including from Help › Contact us, Report a bug or Send feedback | To answer you. These emails include the app version and platform and, unless you switch diagnostics off, your screen size and whether you use demo, manual or linked data. They never include balances, transactions or account names unless you type them. |
| Technical data: IP address and request details | Whenever the app or website talks to our servers | To deliver the service and keep it secure |
When you link a bank, you sign in to your bank in Plaid’s own window. We never see your bank username or password. Access is read-only: BudgetKind can’t move money. The access token Plaid gives us is encrypted on our servers (AES-256-GCM) and never sent to the app. Plaid’s use of your information is covered by the Plaid End User Privacy Policy.
We do not collect your location, contacts, photos, files or browsing history, and the app contains no third-party analytics, advertising or crash-reporting code.
5. How we use information
Only to provide BudgetKind to you: sign you in, show and update your linked accounts, answer support emails, keep the service secure and prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations. Categorizing, budgets, recurring-bill detection, insights and “Ask about your spending” all run on your device. We do not sell or rent personal information, use it for advertising, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or use your financial data to train machine-learning models.
6. Who we share it with
We share information only with service providers that run parts of BudgetKind for us, or when the law requires it:
| Provider | What they do | What they handle |
|---|---|---|
| Plaid Inc. | Connects your bank | Your bank connection and the bank data in section 4 |
| Supabase | Our cloud database, sign-in and server functions, hosted in the United States (AWS us-east-1, Virginia) | Your email address, account ID, linked-bank data, encrypted Plaid tokens, request logs |
| Resend | Sends sign-in code emails from no-reply@budgetkind.com | Your email address and the code email; Resend stores email data in the United States |
| Cloudflare | Hosts budgetkind.com and the web app | IP address and request logs |
| IONOS | Our email inbox (hello@vncntlabs.com) | Emails you send us |
| Distributes the Android app through Google Play | Covered by Google’s own privacy policy |
We may also disclose information to comply with law or valid legal process, to protect rights and safety, or as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, in which case this policy continues to apply.
7. How long we keep it
- On your device: until you delete it, uninstall the app or clear site data.
- Cloud account and linked-bank data: while your account exists. Disconnecting a bank ends the connection at Plaid right away and deletes its access token; the transaction history from that bank stays in your account until you delete the account. Deleting your account erases your email address, account and all linked-bank data from our database at once.
- Security records: after deletion we keep a minimal record that an account was deleted (a random account ID, the date and the number of bank connections closed) and the update notices Plaid sent us (Plaid identifiers and event codes). They contain no email address, name or financial details. We use them for security and to investigate problems, and we don’t currently delete them on a schedule.
- Server request logs: kept by Supabase for about 1 day. Our database has no automatic backups.
- Sign-in code emails: kept by Resend for 30 days.
- Emails you send us: kept in our inbox for as long as needed to help you and keep a record of the request; ask us to delete them.
8. Security
All connections use encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS). Plaid access tokens are encrypted at rest and the keys stay on our servers. Each household’s cloud data is separated by database access rules. You can turn on App lock in the app. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your information, we’ll notify you and regulators as the law requires.
9. Your choices
- Use it without an account. Everything except bank linking works on your device alone.
- Delete data on your device: Settings › Your data › Delete all data on this device.
- Disconnect a bank: open one of its accounts and choose Disconnect.
- Delete your cloud account: Settings › Your data › Delete cloud account, or by email. See Delete your account.
- Export: Settings › Your data exports everything on your device as CSV or a backup file.
- Notifications: turn alerts on or off in the app or in your phone’s settings.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under state privacy laws to know, access, correct or delete your personal information, and not to be treated differently for using them. Email us to make a request; we’ll verify it comes from the account’s email address and respond within the time the law requires.
10. Children
BudgetKind is for adults (18 or older) and isn’t directed to children. We don’t knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we’ll delete it.
11. Where we operate
BudgetKind is offered to residents of the United States, and we store and process information in the United States.
12. Changes
We’ll post changes on this page and update the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we use your information, we’ll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
